Debut album ‘ETERNITY, IN YOUR ARMS’ is out now
Released last Friday, CREEPER’s debut album ‘Eternity, In Your Arms’ has been met with widespread critical acclaim, with many praising their unique combination of potent punk rock fury, flamboyant theatrics and ambitious storytelling. It’s a collection which sees the band fulfilling the potential which saw them earn Best British Newcomer at the Kerrang! Awards, Best NewBand at the Metal Hammer Golden God Awards, and Best British Newcomer in Rock Sound readers’ poll.
Now the band present the conclusion of their ‘ETERNITY, IN YOUR ARMS’ video trilogy by unveiling its final chapter with a new film for key album track ‘MISERY’. Set over the course of a Christmas week, the two previous videos – ‘Hiding With Boys’ and‘Black Rain’ – have followed the adventures of James Scythe, a private investigator who travels to the South Coast to debunk the legend of ‘The Stranger’ whilst also seeking to put his own demons to rest. In ‘MISERY’, the story comes to a surprise denouement as Scythe comes to a final confrontation – yet this conclusion continues to pose further questions.
Such is the detailed, immersive experience that CREEPER have built that fans know not only the hotel Scythe stayed at in Southampton but the specific room number, as well as having access to a library of podcasts by him and a network of websites he frequented before seemingly vanishing into thin air.
The video for ‘MISERY’ received its premiere last night at the ‘Inside Room 309’ event in the band’s hometown ofSouthampton. Attended by 150 fans, many of whom dressed as characters from the videos, it featured big screen presentations of all of the band’s videos to date and included a Q&A session with the band’s key collaborators.
CREEPER’s ambitious and feverishly-awaited debut album ‘ETERNITY, IN YOUR ARMS’ finds the Southampton six pushing hard against the boundaries of the art a ‘punk’ band can be expected to produce in 2017. The album is the third installment in a trilogy of records (after the highly acclaimed EPs ‘The Callous Heart’ and ‘The Stranger’) loosely based around J.M Barrie’s Peter Pan. ‘Eternity, In Your Arms’ sees the band wrestling with existential crises, personal failures and emotional desolation via the kaleidoscope of a richly drawn narrative tapestry.
The sextet are currently embarking upon a UK and European headline tour which includes tonight’s sold-out London show at the Electric Ballroom. In addition to the headline dates, scheduled below, CREEPER have recently been confirmed to play all 41 dates of this summer’s Vans Warped Tour.
