After moving on from influential New Wave of American Heavy Metal titans,God Forbid, guitarist and songwriter Doc Coyle did a stint touring with Unearth, Lamb of God, and became the modern metal columnist for before launching VAGUS NERVE with Phyllotaxis singer-songwriter, Ravi Orr.

VAGUS NERVE became fully realized as a band in 2014 when they enlisted the talents of drummer, Moe Watson (Shai Hulud), bassist Aden Oxenreider (Cosm), and guitarist Mike Gowen (MoTHER).

After a successful Kickstarter campaign raising 50% above their goal to hire Forrester Savell (12 Foot Ninja, Karnivool) to mix and master their debut, the atmospheric rock band is ready to take the next step.

Everyone’s hard work and dedication has been leading to this moment as the band today releases their debut EP, Visceral, on Lost Mystic Records. Listen to it on Spotify here:

Says Doc:
"I started Vagus Nerve because I felt modern rock needed a giant dose of authenticity. Everyone is concerned with making 3 minute songs for the radio with copy-cat recordings that sound more like computers than a real fucking rock n roll band. I was lucky to find 4 other musicians that are more talented than me, and yet still manage to bring a humility that forged an instantaneous chemistry. I know the British fans will embrace Vagus Nerve, because they have good taste and most importantly, passion. I was last in the UK touring with Unearth in 2013, and it was amazing to see how many supporters I still have. I can't wait to take our journey to the UK as soon as possible."

The band recently debuted their 1st music video for the single “Pull Me Out”, directed by Douglas Henderson for Bold Creative Media out of York, PA. Like the songwriting, music production, and album artwork before it, this video falls in line with the elegance and beauty that characterises VAGUS NERVE. The band looks to tour in support of Visceral in the winter.

As Lions unveil new single & announce EP details

UK rock outfit As Lions have announced their debut EP Aftermath, out October 14th via Better Noise Records. The EP will be available digitally in the US and physically in Europe. In conjunction with the announcement of the EP, the band have also unveiled the title track and first single ‘Aftermath’.
Watch the visualiser HERE.

The EP’s four dynamic tracks are a study in contrasts, mixing thick, grinding riffs and rhythms with majestically sweeping strings, stately piano tinklings and a hefty dose of atmospheric electronics, all shot through with Dickinson’s soaring vocals and introspective lyrics. ‘Aftermath’ has vocalist, Austin Dickinson asking: “What have we created / what have we become?” as guitars churn and crash around him. “Conceptually it's about trying to navigate your way out of disaster, be it personal, collective, or in the case of the video, a war zone,” says Dickinson. Another track, the crushing ‘Deathless’targets the internet culture’s obsession with image - full track listing below.

Comprised of Austin Dickinson, guitarist and keyboardist Conor O’Keefe, guitarist Will Homer, bassist Stefan Whiting and drummer Dave Fee, As Lions are the evolution of British rock. Standing by their mission to create “the biggest, baddest hard rock we could, and on an almost cinematic scale,” the band has worked with award-winning producer David Bendeth (Of Mice & Men, Paramore, Bring Me The Horizon) and Kane Churko (Five Finger Death Punch, Disturbed, In This Moment). The band has played sold out shows in the UK, performing with metal/rock pioneers, Trivium, and making festival appearances this past summer at Camden Rocks and Download. As Lions are now gearing up to bring Aftermath and their explosive live show to the US during their arena tour with Five Finger Death Punch, Shinedown, and Sixx:A.M.

MESHUGGAH Post Final Trailer For The Violent Sleep Of Reason

Swedish extreme tech-metal pioneers MESHUGGAH are in the homestretch of the release of their eighth album, The Violent Sleep Of Reason. Today, the final trailer where Tomas discusses recording the album live.

Check out the video on the Nuclear Blast YouTube channel:

"Kind of looking back at the albums, the music and songs that we grew up with that we really loved in metal were always recorded live and they have that live vibe to it," comments Tomas Haake. "There is certain energy that comes with recording live compared to recording drums first and fixing whatever need to be fixed so it sounds perfect then recording guitars on top of that. There is nothing wrong in doing it like that but we felt like we wanted to take a step back towards how we were doing things in the early 90's and kind of go a little old school in that sense. We wanted the challenge that comes with that."

Check out the album trailers below:
Trailer 1 - Discussing the title and cover artwork
Trailer 2 - Chatting about the lyrical inspiration for the album.
Trailer 3 - Tomas discussing his drumming inspiration
Trailer 4 - Tomas Haake's Swedish Supergroup
Trailer 5 - Talking about recording at Puk Studios

Tomas Haake comments about the album,
"Basically, the whole idea of why we chose the title is it kinda connects with the lyrical content of the album. Which is to a fair degree about current events and what you see is going on as far as terrorism today, extremist views on ideals, and religious dogma and the violent implications that you get from being asleep so to speak and not acting/reacting to what is going on in the proper way"

The album was produced by the band and was engineered by Tue Madsen of Puk Studios in Kaerby,Denmark. For the cover, the band once again enlisted Keerych Luminokaya who created the artwork for Koloss and The Ophidian Trek as well as the new images for each of the 7 albums and 3 EP's featured in the 25 Years of Musical Deviance box set.

Track listing as follows:
1. Clockworks
2. Born in Dissonance

They will be headlining the event, which will also feature Manchester based death metallers Foetal Juice and London extreme metallersScutum Crux plus many more…

Melechesh were founded in Jerusalem in 1993 by young guitarist Ashmedi, and since then they have proved themselves as visionaries creating an entirely new genre. Experimenting with melting raw black metal with Mediterranean drum patterns and guitar scales resulted in their first phenomenal demo ‘As Jerusalem Burns’ and the 7” EP ‘The Siege Of Lachish’ – earning the band a forcible underground following.

Melechesh released their most recent album ‘Enki’ in early 2015, a deep and personal album filled with metaphor, spiritual, and philosophical references – a further development of their own Mesopotamian metal.

TESTAMENT release 3rd 'Brotherhood Of The Snake' video trailer

Legendary bay area thrash metal giants TESTAMENT discuss some of the lyrical themes that inspired their 12th album, 'Brotherhood Of The Snake' in this third video trailer. Watch vocalist Chuck Billy and guitarist Eric Peterson talk about topics such as secret societies and ancient aliens, here.

'Brotherhood Of The Snake' will be released on October 28th, 2016 via Nuclear Blast.

Brotherhood Of The Snake track list:
01. Brotherhood Of The Snake
02. The Pale King
03. Stronghold
04. Seven Seals
05. Born In A Rut
06. Centuries Of Suffering
07. Neptune’s Spear
08. Black Jack
09. Canna Business
10. The Number Game

'Brotherhood Of The Snake' was recorded under the watchful eyes of producer Juan Urteaga (EXODUS, HEATHEN, MACHINE HEAD), guitarist Eric Peterson and singer Chuck Billy and was mixed and mastered by well-known metal producer Andy Sneap (ACCEPT, ARCH ENEMY, CRADLE OF FILTH, KREATOR, MACHINE HEAD, MEGADETH). Artwork was created by renowned artist Eliran Kantor (HATEBREED, SOULFLY, KATAKLYSM), whom the band worked with for 'The Dark Roots Of Earth'.

Commented Peterson in an interview with Metal Maniac:
"It's very diverse, but it's very epic. There's nothing on there that breeds commercial. And I think for thirty years of recording music and trying different formulas and stuff, I think we've found a formula that is very metal. I think for the metal fan that is looking for something for the nook and crannies… not just your normal, 'Oh, it's got a thrash beat and a riff.' There's a lot going on here."

The songwriter also told Metal Forces in another interview: "It's different. This one is more thrash. I mean, this has got some of the fastest stuff that we have ever played. Usually, we have one or two thrash songs, and then we have some mid-tempo, and then we have a slow, heavy one, and then up-tempo kind of stuff. Half of the new record is thrash, which we've never done before."

He continued:
"It's kind of like 'Demonic' and 'The Gathering', but a little bit wiser, I think. Chuck's not singing so death. I mean, he does some death stuff but he's singing more like he did on the last record and then with the craziness of 'The Gathering' or even heavy stuff like'Demonic'."

Testament are planning to celebrate the release of ‘Brotherhood Of The Snake’ on their upcoming UK/Ireland tour with Amon Amarth and Grand Magus this autumn.

Tour dates are as follows:
(w. Amon Amarth & Grand Magus)

Kyng `Breathe In The Water` Review

The music industry is full of strange comings and goings and if you get to do that at all it’s a pure miracle, often people give up after one attempt yet for Kyng’s members this band was to be their last attempt, their last hurrah into the unforgiving music wasteland.

When `Burn The Serum` landed on Metal Hobbit’s desk under its previous incarnation as Matterz, the vocals jumped out of the riffs and was certainly something that would turn heads and defy what you’d expect to hear especially when you hear the crushing riffs.

Now back with `Breathe In The Water`, produced by the one and only Machine whose past stellar work include Lamb Of God and Clutch to name but a few, the So-Cal trio strike again with 14 tunes to prove that old school, no gimmicks approach to hard rock can still be done and done well.

The album launches straight into an aural assault with `Pristine Warning`, heavy riffs and pounding groove is the name of the game on this track, yet the most surprising aspect of Kyng are Eddie’s soaring vocals that just prove that you can have a catchy and dare I say impassioned singing combined with heavy riffs that aren’t the typical growling, guttural vocals that we have become so accustomed towards.

The second and title track `Breathe In The Water` has a hint of little Queens Of The Stone Age style riffing, that stop/start rhythm during the intro and verses really hint at that Josh Homme inspiration. Again Eddie’s vocals hit the nail right on the head taking inspiration of heavy riffs with towering vocals that is really something unique not only on this song or the album but for the band’s ethos of capturing that 70’s sound of Sabbath, Zeppelin but giving it a modern twist with crushing production.

14 tracks is a lot although the album as a whole doesn’t feel bogged down or lagging in any sense, `Breathe In The Water` contains a couple of interlude tracks to break up the album with `The Beginning of What Was` a lovely acoustic number certainly heralding Sabbath’s or Zeppelin vibe of which leads directly into `The Battle of the Saint Lines` well.

`Breathe In The Water` is a statement of intent from Kyng and it definitely works as a continuation of `Burn The Serum`. It contains all the heavy riffing and pounding groove that people love of Clutch, Black Label Society or Down along with the soaring vocals that you expect from the likes of Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath and Deep Purple. Kyng feels like a throwback towards the bygone era of music where to actually get into the studio you had to be good, yet for all of Kyng’s throwback elements they also remain with one foot in the future giving big hooks, soaring vocals, crushing riffs and drums all together with modern sensibilities.

8.5/10- Kyng impassioned hard rock, one foot in the past and one in the future, perfect for that 70’s feel with a modern twist.

Stand out tracks:
`Pristine Warning`, `Breathe In The Water` and `Show Me Your Love`

Track Listing:
1. Pristine Warning
2. Breathe In The Water
3. Closer to the End
4. Follow Blindly
5. Show Me Your Love
6. Reckoning Part 1
7. The Dead
8. Bipolar Schemes
9. Hide From You
10. Song For a Broken Masque
11. The Beginning of What Was
12. The Battle of the Saint/Lines
13. Not Enough
14. What I’m Made Of/Reckoning Part 2
