The new single is taken from the band's critically acclaimed debut EP, 'Tempers'. A release with a huge amount of heart from a band with a huge amount of promise, Tempers treads the lines of alternative, melodic and UK rock, whilst always hinting at something darker.

"In short, nothing less than stunning" - 5/5,
"If this little taster is anything to go by, Of Allies are certainly a bright prospect" - 9/10,

Massive `Full Throttle' Album review by Nathan Kerridge-Porter

The Rival Sons, before these guys Earache Records was known as the Extreme Metal capital with the likes of At The Gates, Carcass and Napalm Death all treading through the hallowed halls of Nottingham, but now a new breed are being snapped up and `Massive’ showcases Earache new intent on conquering the rock world.

Hailing from you guessed it, Australia who have helped produced a handful of bands that have taken the world by storm, AC/DC and Airbourne should certainly come to mind. `Massive’ are not your modern rock band, they have an attitude that just oozes the heady days of the 70’s and 80’s when rock debauchery was king, for example they travelled over 1000 miles to play one show and that rock n roll spirit of getting kicked out of hotels for partying to hard.

`Full Throttle’ is not a new album; it was released last year only independently, this is 15 songs of pure unadulterated rock, it screams, shouts, spits and drinks a tonne of Fosters and that’s just within the first 3 songs. From the screaming feedback in `One by One’ you pretty much know you are in for a straight up AC/DC style rock album and there will be some that will label it as such and immediately stop, but with 15 tracks there’s bound to be different tracks that aren’t all AC/DC inspired and well yes there are.

`Dancefloor’ opens with a bass line more attuned to funk than hard rock and the use of a gospel choir at the end of `Best of Both Worlds’ is truly inspired and adds so much to the song and to the album.

The album is inspired by more than just AC/DC, two obvious influences are Aerosmith and for the track `Ghost’ it sings to the beat of Motley Crue’s `Home Sweet Home’ and has that epic arena 10,000 people singing along.

Massive’s `Full Throttle’ was for all intents and purposes just a hard rock album and within the first three songs felt it was going to be no different to a vast majority of AC/DC inspired bands, yet after the brief warm up the album lets loose on all cylinders, adding sublime touches to individual songs whilst still maintain that hard rock ethos.

Hacktivist announce new track details: 'False Idols' single & video due Monday 4th August

Milton Keynes-based tech-metal-grime-rock hybrid HACKTIVIST release brand new track ‘FALSE IDOLS’ on MONDAY 4th AUGUST, their first new release since 2013’s ‘ELEVATE’ (not counting their highly successful cover release of Jay-Z & Kanye’s ’N****as In Paris’ at end of last year).

Recorded & mixed in the band’s own studio set-up, ‘False Idols’ once again merges the tight rhymes of co-front men J Hurley & Ben Marvin with crushing riffs and jagged tempos, but moves the Hacktivist sound on from last year’s releases, instead pointing the way to the band's upcoming album release, on which work continues (stay tuned for news).

Its not all been time wasted in Hacktivist-world so far this year. The band ventured down under for their first ever Australian shows, appearing on the mammoth Soundwave Festival, and toured Europe as special guests of Korn before starting the 2014 festival circuit and opening for Limp Bizkit in France.

‘False Idols’ comes a few weeks ahead of the band’s main stage appearances at Reading (Friday 22nd Aug) & Leeds (Saturday 23rd Aug) Festivals, and follows the newsof their headlining UK tour this Nov / Dec (a tour as part of the ‘Download Freezes Over’ series of tours, which features Sheffield metal-core-ish-ers DEAD HARTS as main support, and Guildford’s THE ONE HUNDRED opening proceedings).

Keep your eyes out for the link to the 'False Idols' video which will be coming Monday morning.

If Rock’n’Roll is personified by the Stones and Pop music by the Beatles, then Stoner was born with Kyuss. From the heavy, suffocating, arid Coachella Valley and the mystic Californian Desert around, came this legendary band 25 years ago - reaching definitive cult status they do deserve worldwide ever since - before their three genre-defining masterpieces Blues For The Red Sun, Welcome To Sky Valley, as well as ...And The Circus Leaves Town until their split in 1995.

After sharing a dream-come-true experience with fans in major festivals and great venues around the world fronting Kyuss Lives, legendary singer and front man JOHN GARCIA recorded a follow-up to his legacy as Vista Chino with this critically acclaimed Peace LP. Next chapter, a long awaited intimate project: The upcoming and hotly anticipated solo album of John Garcia - a masterpiece by the most distinctive voice of the entire Desert & Stoner Rock scene - to be released worldwide in July & early August of 2014 on Napalm Records!

This record is full of first-class, catchy rock numbers that commute equally between Classic Rock and concise Stoner elements. John Garcia has delivered a multi-faceted and extremely intense solo album that will stir up more dust than a sandstorm in the Californian desert. Robby Krieger ( THE DOORS ), Danko Jones, Tom Brayton, Mark Diamond and also Garcia's old cohort in Kyuss Nick Oliveri show up as guest musicians to round out John's solo masterpiece.

To celebrate his new release, John Garcia will hit the stages for an extense European tour, not only presenting his solo record live, but also playing past and present: From legendary Kyuss songs off Sky Valley, Blues for the Red Sun, ...And The Circus Leaves Town - including some rarities even Kyuss never played live - to Slo Burn, this tour will be a highlight and resumé of legendary tunes, that John Garcia has created in his career. John will be hitting the road with the following, fantastic musicians on stage:
Ehren Groban - Guitar ( War Drum ), Mike Pygmie - Bass ( You Know Who ), Greg Saenz - Drums ( You Know Who, The Dwarves ).

Get ready, for one of THE most highly anticipated tours in 2014:

Wovenwar `Wovenwar' album review by Nathan Kerridge-Porter

As I Lay Dying never featured in news outside of the Metal community, yet 2013 saw one of the most controversial events in recent Metal history. The As I Lay Dying singer Tim Lambesis was held under arrest for a crime that would shake the band and those around them to the core, but from the ashes raises a phoenix, a phoenix named `Wovenwar’ and they is now on a path to show that As I Lay Dying wasn’t just a flash in the pan.

Mr Shane Blay of `Oh, Sleeper’ takes the helm of the new re-formed band who rightly so needed a new image and name to propel their new journey. The aptly self-titled album is a statement to the world, and on first listen you are not treated to a continuation of the As I Lay Dying sound, yes the guitars, bass and drums all sound extremely familiar but when the vocals hit my word you aren’t given anything to what you’d be expecting. Shane Blay takes the vocals and pushes them in towards a hard rock direction or perhaps softer in some songs; Shane Blay really helps transcend Wovenwar from the As I Lay Dying and possibly taking the band away from the circumstances surrounding Tim Lambesis although this will no doubt haunt the band for some time to come.

Songs like `Rise’ push that ethos of a new beginning and with Shane’s melodic approach, it has that crowd singing approach that wasn’t there with As I Lay Dying. Each song has flair, and has some incredible touches from the variation in dynamics from soft to hard rock which is shown on tracks like `Father/Son’ and on ` Tempest’ you are treated to a wonderfully thought out solo that’s not a rip roaring, million notes a second athletic trail that you’d come to expect from modern metal.

With 15 songs to march through, it is perhaps a little too much for their first jump back into the pool after such a career halt, but you are given a taste of a band still hungry to give their brand of heavy music to the masses.

Stand out tracks:
`Father/Son’, `All Rise’ and `Tempest’

“I’m blown away by these recordings. The solo by Paul Guerin on ‘The Journey’ is one of the best I’ve heard. These songs really suit Joe’s voice also. It’s a whole different side to him and the project gets my approval!” – Ian Hunter

The project was born in 2009 when Mott The Hoople reformed and asked long-time friend and fan Joe Elliott (Def Leppard) to get involved. Joe formed the Down ‘n’ Outz with The Quireboys' Paul Guerin(Guitar), Guy Griffin (Guitar) and Keith Weir (keyboards), plus Phil Martini (drums). Together they looked to bring songs by Mott The Hoople and spin off projects of Mott, Ian Hunter and British Lions to a wider audience.

In 2009 Down ‘n’ Outz supported Mott The Hoople at one of the band’s five Hammersmith Apollo shows, which garnered much interest with fans. The fan demand eventually led to the band looking to create an album. 2011 saw the release of the critically acclaimed debut My Re-Generation through Mailboat Records (Joe Perry, Walter Becker, Chris Isaak, Jeff Bridges). My Re-Generation included the singles “England Rocks” and “Overnight Angels,” that reached No 4 and No 1 respectively on the US Media Base Rock chart -keeping Eric Clapton’s new single off the top of the chart for 2 weeks. The band then released a live DVD taken from those initial shows called “Live At Hammersmith Apollo.” The new album The Further Adventures of… picks up where the live DVD left off and features the driving groove of album opener - and first single - “Rock And Roll Queen”(pre-order the album and get "Rock And Roll Queen" instantly). The collection also includes the good time of rock-n-roll tune “One Of The Boys,” and ballad “The Journey,” plus the drum heavy song “Violence.” This LP is set to bring out a rich and much loved seam of British songwriting to a whole new audience. The album was produced byJoe Elliott with co-production by Ronan McHugh. The album was recorded at Joe Elliott’s own studioJoe’s Garage.

Joe Elliott says, “These songs make up a huge portion of who I am and I feel incredibly privileged to have been able to record them and hopefully give them a new lease of life, which, quite frankly, is long overdue.”

Morgan Fisher (keyboardist Mott The Hoople 1973/1974 and also Mott and British Lions) expresses, "It's like Joe and the boys have taken some vintage films and slapped them onto a big, bright Technicolor screen. A great, in-your-face new way to experience some of Mott's finest songs!"

Ian Hunter says, “I’m blown away by these recordings. The solo by Paul Guerin on ‘The Journey’ is one of the best I’ve heard. These songs really suit Joe’s voice also. It’s a whole different side to him and the project gets my approval!”

After supporting Mott The Hoople in 2009, Down ‘n’ Outz played the main stage of inaugural High Voltage festival at Victoria Park, London during the Summer of 2010. Following this memorable performance, they toured the UK as main support to Paul Rogers in 2011.

LA’s Platinum-selling, Grammy-nominated, rebels of rock ‘n’ roll, Buckcherry, have announced plans to release a new EP, simply titled F#CK, on August 18th. Pre-orders for the EP are available now at and the band’s first single - a riotous cover of the Icona Pop hit 'I Love It' which which the band naturally cranks to 11 and renames “Say F#ck It” - will be impacting at radio in the coming weeks. The EP comes out on their own label F-Bomb Records.
Never a band to play by the rules, Buckcherry has made a career out of pushing the boundaries and buttons of conventional rock music. Whether it’s a song audaciously celebrating the finest white flake (“Lit Up”), an homage to unstable and irresistible young ladies (“Crazy Bitch”) or an apologetic ballad (“Sorry”), Buckcherry have always done things their own way and it’s paid off with six highly successful studio albums and multiple hit singles over the last decade. And apparently they were only getting warmed up!

Buckcherry will return this summer with one of their boldest and most controversial releases to date, F#CK; a six-song EP that unapologetically rattles the speakers as much as it will the censors. The record features six balls-to-the-wall tracks that erupt with gritty riffs and sharp-tongued lyrics.

Rock’s favorite misfits will take their new EP on the road this summer with dates in the USA on the Rockstar Energy Drink Uproar Festival Tour and an appearance at the Monster Energy Aftershock Festival in Sacramento, CA. Tickets are on sale for the Uproar Festival at and the Aftershock Festival at

Additionally, Buckcherry has recently launched their “Singles Club” via PledgeMusic, where fans have the opportunity to sign up for a 6-month subscription to receive new, unreleased cover songs the band has recently recorded. Learn more here:

F#CK EP Track List:
1. Somebody F#cked With Me
2. Say F#ck It
3. Motherf#cker
4. I Don’t Give A F#ck
5. It’s A F#cking Disaster
6. Fist F#ck

Comments MOUNT SALEM: “We are very excited to be coming overseas for our first time. Traveling is a hobby for all of us so we're thrilled to be able to see new countries, meet new people, and of course, play some music.”

MOUNT SALEM started writing music together in the summer of 2012 and released their first EP, “Endless”, in the spring of 2013. The band puts a strong emphasis on tone and feeling in both their songs and live performances alike. Most of the band switched from their normal instruments and picked up new ones for this band and the result was much more natural than they had hoped for.

Taking influence from the classics like Black Sabbath and Pentagram, they play loud, heavy rock and roll using all vintage gear. Throwing their own twist of dark and mysterious doom into the music, they invite the listener to step into their sinister realm. The imagery in the lyrics will take you on a ride in which you won't know whether to be scared or grab a sword and join the battle. "Endless feels like it's trapped in the nightmarish head-space of a psychic medium on a bad trip" –

“Endless” has been re-issued by Metal Blade Records last February and includes two brand-new tracks not featured on the original EP that was self-released by the band in 2012.

"Debut album Endless is an absolute monolith of a record that combines the sludgy, droning guitars of Iommi's finest vintage with Emily's shimmering vocals and epic Jon Lord-style organ rushes. It's retro, yes, but it also sounds too exciting to be dismissed as simply revisionism." Metal Hammer UK

"Drawing from the riffage of Black Sabbath and the swagger of Pentagram, Chicago's Mount Salem has created a blinding, groove oriented psychedelic tapestry that infuses the fuzz and growl of 70s metal with the melodic attack of a contemporary act." Outburn Magazine

"a joy to listen to from start to finish…Classic Doom, with a stunning female vocal. A class act in the making."

Emily Kopplin – vocals & organ
Cody Davidson – drums
Mark Hewett – bass
Kyle Morrison – guitars

TYSONDOG sign with Rocksector Records for the release of brand new album "Cry Havoc"

As revealed during the press conference at SOS Festival on 20th July, we're delighted to confirm that NWOBHM heroes TYSONDOG have joined Rocksector Records for the release of "Cry Havoc", an album of brand new songs.

Back in 1984 the likes of Malcolm Dome, Geoff Barton & Dante Bonutto were tipping Tysondog for major success, emerging at that time from the force that had become known as the New Wave Of British Heavy Metal. One way or another, the fates conspired to deprive Tysondog of the international fame that so many thought they were destined for and in time the band disappeared from the limelight.

Nevertheless, Tysondog's rich history was not forgotten & having re-started their engines, have gradually worked their way back with a new perspective on life and the band is happy to see that people are taking notice. Only recently when the news broke that the band was joining Rocksector Records during SOS Festival, the power, precision and impact of their live performance at the same event won many new fans/friends. That's typical of the response this band is receiving.

For more information on the history of Tysondog there's a very informative piece written by Malcolm Dome at the band's website HERE

"Cry Havoc" is provisionally set for a release early in 2015.

Band members:
Mark John Carruthers (vocals)
Kev Wynn (bass)
Paul Burdis (Guitar)
Phil Brewis (Drums)
Stevie Morrison (Guitar)

UK hard rockers Black State Highway are set to release their single ‘Ain’t Got No’ on August 11 via Hear No Evil/Cherry Red Records

The single precedes the release of the band’s self-titled debut album on August 18. To celebrate, the band will play an album launch show at the Alley Cat venue in London’s legendary Denmark Street on August 14 with support from blues rockers Little Brother Eli.Formed at Brighton’s Institute of Modern Music, the band includes Latvian singer Liva Steinberga (22), aided and abetted by guitarist Olie Trethewey (23), bassist Gordon Duncan (23), Jon Crampton (24) and drummer Harry Bland (22). Equal parts filthy blues riffs, monster rhythm and raw, but melodic hooks, these young guns have set a determined foot on the road to rock glory, honing their skills around London's gig circuit and tearing up venues like O2 Academy Islington, Big Red and the Intrepid Fox.

Within the grooves of this self-titled debut you’ll hear shreds of their rock heroes AC/DC, Rage Against the Machine, Led Zeppelin, but it’s their bone crunching riffs and bottle shattering vocals that set them apart from the rest of the pack. With a respectful nod at the musical pedigree that influenced them, the band stamp their own authority on the scene by stepping outside the boundaries of mere classic rock traditions with their own original brand of heavy riff-based rock, evident on tracks like ‘Conclusion’, ‘Tekkers’ and the single ‘Ain’t Got No’.

‘Ain’t Got No’ the single will be available to download from all usual online retailers from Monday August 11.

Rival Sons `Great Western Valkyrie' Album review by Nathan Kerridge-Porter

Earache Records, the bastions of the extreme metal world were up until a few years ago without a flagship band that could take the independent label out of the shadows and albeit very annoyingly extreme metal perhaps isn’t the genre that can do that.

So when Rival Sons were signed back in 2011, it was most assuredly a shock but 3 years on and no doubt has it done Earache a huge favour and with the release of the `Great Western Valkyrie’ the Gentleman Rock outfit’s profile will continue to rise.

Hailing from California, Rival Sons adhere to the ethos based upon the rich music history of that fair state and show their influences on their sleeves but it’s far more than some mediocre copy. Going through the 10 tracks on `Great Western Valkyrie’, the blues rock vibe is delivered in spades here with `Electric Man’ hitting you like a freight train, the distorted guitars and Led Zep style vocals really cut through the mix and has that with a gritty, fuzz tone that were a key aspect of the great bands of the 60’s and 70’s.

Simplicity mixed with universal messages seem to be the order for Rival Sons, but that certainly does not and I repeat does not make it boring or another run of the mill band. Mixing psychedelic rock with blues rock with tracks like `Good Things’ and `Rich and Poor’ it produces a rather unique vibe with mixes of The Rolling Stones and The Doors which is no easy to takes to replicate and the Rival Sons have created a unique blend.

`Belle Starr’ is another extremely fascinating song, which boarders so many musical styles, extremely airy with a lot of reverb it leaves the vocals and instruments an almost transcendent feel.

Rival Sons just keep producing great records and without doubt the `Great Western Valkyrie’ is up there, Earache Records certainly gambled on having a non-metal band on their label but god it works and variety is the spice of life and with `Great Western Valkyrie’ adds the spice in droves. A superb album from a band with so much time and years left.

Stand out tracks:
`Electric Man’, `Good Things’ and `Rich and Poor’

Track Listing:
1. Electric Man

2. Good Luck

3. Secret

4. Play The Fool

6. Open My Eyes

9/10- Rival Sons, once again dishing out superb Gentleman Rock.

Alestorm `Interview with Chris Bowes’

Hey Chris,

How are you?

I'm dreadful. My cat just died.

Can you give us a rundown of the History of Alestorm?

I was born in a barn in rural Achiltibuie at the age of 5. At the ripe old age of 14 I made the great walk south, and ended up in the bustling metropolis of Perth, where I met up with 4 itinerant minstrels. After some minor successes in the local be-bop scene, we jumped genres and became the pirate metal sensation you know today.

For those people who should know about Alestorm but unfortunately do not, can you describe your sound and your influences in the band?

We play "Patagonian Pirate Party Power Polka", sometimes referred to simply as "Pirate Metal". I guess it sounds sorta like a mash up of the symphonic metal grandeur of Bal-Sagoth with the disco sensibilities of Patrick Hernandez. But with more accordion.

You have a new album `Sunset On The Golden Age’, can you tell us about the writing and recording process with that?

I sat in a room for 6 months of 2013 writing stupid songs about pirates, and by some weird twist of fate some of them were actually good. So we jumped on a plane and went to Lubeck in Germany to record them. Several months of post production tweaking later, here we are!

What is on the DVD for the special edition?

It's basically just one hour's worth of footage of us fucking around in the studio, getting drunk, and being really bad at recording our parts. It doesn't show the very important part of the recording process where everything is quantized and replaced by session musicians in pro tools. Basically it makes us look really cool.

Also coming up you has a massive tour in the UK, what do you expect to gain for that tour?

Cirrhosis of the liver and resentment for northerners.

How was Sonisphere? What were the highlights of playing the show and any bands you checked out?

The highlight was definitely the fact that there was about 10000 people watching us! That's 9900 more than usual! I really enjoyed seeing The Prodigy, they were pretty rad. As were Reel Big Fish...was kinda amusing when the FOH sound cut out, and obviously they had no idea, so there was a bunch of people silently goofing around on stage for 5 minutes. The best times.

You’re pretty active on the social media front, do you see this as a good thing to stay connected to your fans or should there be some distance?

Always keep your distance. Did you know that if a fan looks a musician in the eye, it can transfer deadly diseases? That's why rockstars always wear sunglasses.

How do you kill time when you are on the road?

Magic the Gathering and recovering from hangovers, mostly!

Lastly, have you been following the World Cup, and if not what else have you been getting doing too avoid it?

I went to America for the month of June. They don't even know what soccer is over there. So it was pretty easy to stay away from it!

Alestorm `Sunset on the Golden Age' album review by Nathan Kerridge-Porter

As a child, what did you want to be? A pilot, a ninja perhaps or then again a Pirate is probably one of the coolest things you could have possibly dreamt of being. Well for Alestorm, they are in a manner living that dream, albeit replacing sails with buses, aeroplanes and anything else to sail the seven seas.

Alestorm return with `Sunset on the Golden Age’, after pillaging the `Best New Pirate Metal Band’ at the Grammy’s, is it a good album to send Captain Bowes and Crew on another merry tour or will they be followed by the vicious Kraken?

Captain Morgan’s and a barrel of it will see you through `Sunset on a Golden Age’, a bit like a Dairy Milk bar, you know exactly what’s in it and how it’s going to taste but god damn it’s tasty. Alestorm are without doubt one of the most fun bands to go and see live and `Sunset’ delivers on all barrels, it’s got the fun drinking songs `Mead From Hell’ is a rip roaring pirate party song that will make you want to down the hatch. Being familiar with a few Alestorm jaunts, it was certainly heavier than expected with `Magnetic North’ boarding on Thrash over the fun time Power Metal that is more accustomed with Alestorm.

Alestorm are not one for being over serious, and `Sunset’ has its fair share of over the top ridiculous songs `Wooden Leg’ is just downright nuts and has all the hallmarks of a tavern song although it may be worth time travelling to the 17th Century but with the amount of cosplayers out there it is worth noting that we could see a comeback of the wenches and mead taverns of yester year. The last song aptly titled the same as the album is a long one at 11.25, it’s the longest song on the album by some way and is perhaps a bit too long on the scale but still Alestorm try and make it as fun as possible to see off this album.

`Sunset of the Golden Age’ is definitely a fun time album with Pirates and Mead galore but will it be the Sunset for Alestorm’s fun and golden times or will they journey on to the fountain of youth and keep reliving their youthful pirate tales for years to come, certainly we hope it’s the latter, but that’s for you all to decide.

Stand out tracks:
`Magnetic North’, `Mead From Hell’ and `Wooden Leg’

Walk The Plank

Magnetic North

1741 (The Battle of Cartagena)

Mead From Hell

UK based AEON ZEN, a shining light in the British progressive metal scene, return in 2014 with the release of their fourth album, EPHEMERA, on September 1st.

UK based AEON ZEN, a shining light in the British progressive metal scene, return in 2014 with the release of their fourth album, EPHEMERA, on September 1st.

The band have released new song 'Unite' via Prog mag. check it out here:

Arguably their most ambitious effort to date, EPHEMERA showcases the band as passionate, progressive visionaries, with music set to transport the listener to a higher plane of consciousness and elation. Produced, mixed, and mastered by the band’s own Rich Hinks, the new album debuts the band’s new line-up with the addition of Alistair Bell on guitar and Tom Green on Keyboards. EPHEMERA delivers on the potential of one of the UK’s most promising progressive metal acts, and picks up, musically and thematically, where third album ‘Enigma’ left off. Continuing on with the story, ‘EPHEMERA’ closes the narrative loop with the all-encompassing tale of a world reborn.

Formed in 2008, this talented quintet has placed constant transformation at the centre of their collective being and the results so far have been outstanding. Releasing their debut album, ‘A Mind’s Portrait’, in 2009 to great acclaim among the progressive and metal underground, it was quickly followed by 2010’s ‘The Face of The Unknown’. Continuing from strength to strength, Aeon Zen brought their own brand of creative, complex, melodic progressive metal to fans all over the world, along with their highly energised live shows, most significantly in 2011, when Devin Townsend tapped Aeon Zen as main support for the Devin Townsend Project’s 12-nation European tour that year.

2013 saw the release of the band’s third album, ‘Enigma’. A departure from previous records, this concept album displayed a band continuing to grow and mature musically whilst building a solid and increasing fanbase. Late 2013 saw the release of their Self-Portrait EP, 4 tracks re-imagining the band's début album to represent the bands musical and stylistic progression.

Alongside the album release, 2014 will see the band appearing at UK Tech Fest in July, Resonance Rock Festival in August, ProgPower Europe in October, with a UK and European tour to be announced shortly.

DICTATED history:
Once upon a time, the furious female guitar tandem Yessica Otten and Sonja Schuringa stumbled upon Michiel vd Plicht and Henri Sattler during a heavy drinking session. While Henri was hustling to sell the girls one of his custom-made SK Guitars they managed to talk business in creating the new DICTATED album.

On that very same night, vocalist York picked up the sense of success and after another night in the Irish pub, he was there to stay.

Forces joined together, the five of them took over the rehearsal rooms and Henri enslaved the others into writing at their utmost. Ten new songs were born with the help of an overload of sweat, beer and coffee.

In September 2013, DICTATED took over Studio Soundlodge for the recordings of their new album "The Deceived". In the meantime, various hilarious photo-shoots took place where friends and family of DICTATED found themselves back mutilated in the artwork.

Humor, some serious questionability of the sane mind and above all, determination and willpower produced the new story of DICTATED and "The Deceived".

As know to their fans, DICTATED is ready to hit the stages again. To dominate every venue with their live performance, just like their European tour with Origin in 2012.

SOS Festival, in Radcliffe, North Manchester, adds a third day to it's 2015 schedule and proudly announces that former-Iron Maiden frontman BLAZE BAYLEY is to play an exclusive "Silicon Messiah" 15th Anniversary Show, headlining the Saturday night on the Dean Hocking Stage (main). "Silicon Messiah" is Blaze's iconic first post-Maiden album including such fan favourites as "Identity", "Stare At The Sun", "The Brave", the title track and more.
Also confirmed are the following.... AVENGER, BLACK WHISKEY, MOTHERLOAD, DIE NO MORE, TEN BY TEN, as well as WIZZ ACOUSTIC from Belgium who will headline the Metal Nation Radio Acoustic Stage on Saturday.

SOS is an indoor event presented by independent record label Rocksector Records and 2015 will be the 8th such event. Previous headliners include I AM I, GUN, Black Spiders, Heavens Basement, Absolva and Beholder. The organisers seek to deliver a mixture of Rocksector Records bands, together with UK and international artists, also supporting the Manchester rock and metal scene with a reasonable number of local bands. Most people seem to agree the recent 2014 event was the strongest yet.

In 2015, SOS Festival takes place on 17th - 19th July, and tickets which are already on-sale, represent outstanding value once again at Friday £5, Saturday £10, Sunday £10, or £15 for the full weekend.

NWOBHM heroes AVENGER have joined the Rocksector label just recently to soon release their first brand new material for many years, whilst London-based BLACK WHISKEY and MOTHERLOAD have similarly joined the label for new releases. BLACK WHISKEY includes frontman Simon Gordon who fans will recognise from his former bands XENTRIX and HELLFIGHTER. Meanwhile, DIE NO MORE are Cumbrian-based thrash metallers who are set to make real waves with a full length debut album on Rocksector which will help keep the Metallica/Testament/Megadeth fans happy.

WIZZ ACOUSTIC is from Belgium and well-known to SOS audiences. He will headline the Metal Nation Radio Acoustic Stage on Saturday, whilst the excellent groove/grunge rockers TEN BY TEN are the first of our Manchester area bands to be confirmed.

The DEAN HOCKING STAGE (main) is so-named after the late bassist of Rocksector band Nightvision - Dean's young life was tragically cut short in a serious car crash on 27th December 2012 and he is forever honoured and remembered by SOS Festival audiences.

During the next few months a further 19 bands will ultimately be announced for the Dean Hocking Stage, whilst an additional 8 artists will be confirmed for the Metal Nation Radio Acoustic Stage.

Our thanks go to our partners Powerplay, Get Your Rock Out and Metal Nation Radio for their kind help.

The capital’s blistering new apocalyptic power-punks The Howling have been announced as main support to the hard-hitting rock collective JettBlack’s autumn UK tour.

Commencing on October 7th at Sheffield’s Corporation and culminating at The Joiners, Southampton, October 13th, the band will also play a sweaty appearance at London’s Islington Academy on October 12th.

The announcement follows the unveiling of the monstrous video for The Howling’s official first single ‘Possessed’, due August 31st.

The single and video is a dangerous display of the band’s decimating riffs and raucous growl. It’s also a true encapsulation of their live show – something that rendered Bring The Noise to declare, “The Howling are the most real and dangerous rock and roll band we’ve seen for quite a while – it might not be too much of an exaggeration to say this might have been what seeing Guns n’ Roses in 1986 or The Sex Pistols in their heyday was like. This band is vital… it’s now… it’s wow.”

Self-inflicted slaves to the road, The Howling’s upcoming run with JettBlack in October continues a year of carefully crafted live chaos including performances at Camden Rocks, Download and a UK stint with Feed The Rhino. Bringing rock ‘n’ roll annihilation to every show, The Howling are set to blow away each and every audience this autumn. Full tour details can be found below.

October tour with Jettblack

9th – Nottingham, Rock City Basement

Monty Python Live (Mostly) review by Nathan Kerridge-Porter

Monty Python is in equal parts, bonkers, strange, twisted, brilliant, and mind-blazingly funny. It’s a group of comedians that are known worldwide and comedy I believe is nearly equal to music in that it crosses boundaries, religion, and class and in the Python’s case has become legendary.

No one expects the Spanish Inquisition; these are but a few words that have been uttered by the famous collection known as Monty Python, a group that has been etched into the annals of popular culture history. How many in this world cannot at least hum the tune to `Always Look on the Bright Side of Life’?

361 combined years between the members of Python, they return to the stage, the TV screen and the cinema. Tonight’s venue is less cinema, more theatre; like returning to the past sketches of tonight’s entertainment, the Richmond Odeon Cinema has that nostalgic theatre appearance and with the added technological updates it almost feels like a perquisite of the show, the old meeting the new so to speak.

Patiently waiting for the show to begin, looking around it might as well be the O2 arena; ice cream and nachos are placed delicately on laps, a thunderous rapture holds the building. The noise from the O2 seeps into the building and being lost in the moment is perhaps most notable when the sound of clapping envelopes the auditorium.

The opening half feels a little like a warm up, the audience are still finding their feet but we are treated to a medley of songs and sketches with most being revamped to accommodate for the man down. It wasn’t until the very end sketch of the first half that things really hit their stride. This might be partly thanks to the one-off John Cleese forgetting his lines and chuckling with his friends despite the 15,000 people in attendance and the thousands more around the globe watching from their screens.

The second half certainly felt far more relaxed watching these old friends relive 40 years of comedy, making a number of jokes about recent events with Palin’s travel documentaries and Cleese’s divorce being up for a damn good thrashing.

The change of personnel during some sketches and songs felt a little strange but for the most part feels like they did their best despite the absence of Graham Chapman and made it every bit as enjoyable with some added extras; although the `Wink Wink’ song felt a little out of place, almost like your granddad trying to rap, it simply didn't work and was a perhaps a bit of a squirm.

The Dead Parrot sketch needs no introduction and is perhaps one of the Python’s finest written works. It had the best reception from the audience, especially as the slip-ups and follies from both Michael and John were met by great applause. This was a wonderful nod to the genius Graham Chapman during the sketch as both Palin and Cleese saluted and including him within the lines of the sketch.

Playing the O2 to 15,000 people and to thousands more at home and in packed cinema’s, it certainly should the way to go out, the Parrot has gone out with a bang, its top of the league, what a perfect way to end one of Britain’s most beloved comedy ensemble.

10/10- The Python’s 40 years on showing their incalculable influence on modern pop culture.
